Year 6 have been absolute superstars this half term. They have coped really well with the changes and have shown, time and again, that they are able to do their best at all times.

We have been working really hard on the key essentials in the core curriculum areas and ensuring we are as confident as can be for “those” tests in May. The children have been able to really decode large texts and pieces of writing to answer questions fully and carefully. We have looked at a range of texts, from ‘Holes’ to ‘The Phantom Tollbooth’ and smaller pieces in between.

In writing, we have looked at description to write about a bomb shelter which was linked to our history topic. Currently, we are finishing off our narrative around a tsunami disaster, which is connected to our geography unit of learning around our ‘Blue Planet’.

Our maths learning time has been spent refining our key skills in arithmetic alongside covering the final units of work we need to know in order to be completely confident in our tests later this year. Decimals, fractions, percentages, area, perimeter and algebra have all been on our mind as we look to ensure we are as confident as possible.

In our wider curriculum topics, the children have learnt how hats are made in DT and created their final hat design by accurately measuring, marking out and shaping various materials. After attaching all the parts with a hot glue gun effectively and safely, they used their sewing techniques to join the gaps. Mrs Tahir and all the children were proud of the final outcome (see some of the photos attached).

For art, year 6 explored block priority and identified features of Andy Warhol's work. They created a simple block print by choosing their favourite logo and experimented with repeat patterns as well as creating their own vases which will be on display very soon.

I will be sending home some Easter revision for the children very soon, with a letter to follow. Please have a look through this pack and the recent test paper your child completed to better understand what the SATS will look like in May.

Thank you very much for your support this term- it’s been great speaking with you all again and I hope you have a restful and enjoyable two weeks holiday.
