Summer Term Highlights from Nursery
BackFor Summer 2, Nursery’s topic focus was ‘Under the Sea’. The children learnt about the seaside environment and how to stay safe near the sea. They learnt about different sea creatures that inhabit the sea; how water varies in temperature (some being hot and some being cold); and how the Earth is divided into sea and land.
Through their books, they learnt about the seaside by studying various sea creatures.
To expand their knowledge of sea creatures and the seaside environment, while embracing their creativity in expressive art, the children created their own sea creatures and pirates with paper plates and colouring sheets. Furthermore, the children coloured in sheets of their favourite ice creams and used different coloured tissue paper to provide additional toppings and decoration for their ice creams. They also made their own sea creatures by crafting penguins with plastic bottles and paper.
In role-play, we set up an ice-cream parlour which allowed the children to pretend to make ice cream with various flavours and toppings of their choice. They implemented their numeracy skills by counting the number of scoops they served in each of the cones. They further improved their numeracy skills by measuring the capacity of liquids, counting numbers, and matching numbers to their relevant quantities (of objects).
In Maths, the children learnt how to measure length using different objects and methods. They used measuring instruments such as rulers, wooden blocks, and cubes.
In PSHE, the children learnt about how to be good friends by learning about kind actions such as sharing and giving hugs when they are sad.
