Our topics this term were ‘Down at the Bottom of the Garden’ and ‘Under the Sea’.

In ‘Down at the Bottom of the Garden,’ we enjoyed listening to stories such as: Farmyard Hullabaloo, Jack and the Beanstalk, Handa’s Surprise, Yucky Worms, Omar, the Bees and Me, and Window. We learnt about farms, growing food, food from different countries, minibeasts, and environmental change.

In ‘Under the Sea,’ we enjoyed listening to stories such as: At the Beach, Postcards from Crabby Spit, The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch, Sully the Seahorse, Pirates Love Underpants, and Rocket Says Clean Up!. We learnt about sun and sea safety, where the sea is, who lives at the seaside, who lives below the sea, conservation, and pirates.

We immersed ourselves in our stories, sequenced the order of events from each, acted them out using props, and finally wrote sentences. Have a look at our writing!

In Maths, we have been learning about doubling and odd and even numbers. We have explored manipulating, composing, and decomposing shapes. We have also focused on visualising, building, and mapping using positional language.

In PSHE, the children have been learning about our bodies and how to be healthy. This includes topics such as eating, exercise, and happiness. We have also been looking at how we have changed from babies to children who will be going into Year 1!

We had two special visitors this term. Thanks to Jan Murray, who brought Daisy the Cow and Clover the Goat and gave a talk to the children about where milk comes from and how it gets to our shops. The children loved it and even had a go at milking Daisy and Clover at the end! We also had the wonderful Aesop’s Touring Theatre Company come and put on the play The Hare and the Tortoise. The children were so engaged and loved watching and joining in with the play.
