Spring Term Highlights from Year 1

Year 1 has had a very exciting term. We have learnt lots of new things.

English

We have been learning about a recount. We learned about the features in a recount and spoke about the writing being in the past tense as it has already happened. We wrote our recounts about our weekend. We wrote about all the fun things we did on the weekend.

Maths

We have been learning about place value to 50. We have learnt to count to 50. We have learnt about tens and ones using dienes.

Science

We have just finished learning about materials. We learnt lots of new things. We learnt about different types of materials. We learnt that objects can be made from different materials. We used key words such as, hard, rough, shiny, etc to describe materials. We also went on a rock hunt in the KS1 outside area and had a look at the rocks closely using a magnifying glass. Our next topic is planting and then we will learn about animals.

Geography

We have been learning about where we live. We learnt about the continents and oceans. We really enjoyed singing the continents song! We learnt about the United Kingdom, its countries and capital cities. We looked at our local area and spoke about places in Reading that we have been to.
