Highlights from Year 4

Writing

In Writing, we looked at various types of non-chronological texts and explored their features to write our own. Year 4 wrote excellent non-chronological reports, and we were able to use subheadings, 3rd person writing, fact boxes, and technical vocabulary to write reports about our favourite animals. For our final focus text this term, we will be looking at writing a ‘recount’ of our trip to the park last term.

Maths

In Maths, we have completed our MTC checks. I am pleased to say that there were loads of progress in our multiplication recall and our good results were proof of all their hard work. We have enjoyed our unit on Money this term and using resources to help us solve our maths problems.

Science

Year 4 worked scientifically this term and looked at various experiments. We investigated different ways to draw electricity from different components using a circuit and predicted whether it will continue to work if we change one of the components to an insulator. We looked at the reaction of yeast, water and sugar on a balloon and Year 4 thoroughly enjoyed contributing to the predictions and observation skills. We most enjoyed our investigation on whether ‘eggs could fly’ using air resistance to test this theory.

History

We explored the Anglo-Saxons this term and found out that they came from many places all over Europe including Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands. We researched why they invaded Britain, exploring a Saxon Burial Ship and learning more about Sutton Hoo. We particularly enjoyed finding out why there were tensions between the Scots, Picts and the Anglo-Saxons and why the Saxons wanted to conquer Scotland. We also enjoyed writing phrases using the Ogham language that the Picts used.

Class Trip to Prospect Park

We are very happy that we waited for better weather! Year 4 loved our attendance trip to Prospect Park. Everyone had a lovely time, we enjoyed playing on a range of play equipment and it was all smiles! Who doesn't love going to the park on a school day!
