Highlights from Year 6
BackYear 6 have been gearing up for their SATs tests recently. We are very proud of how each child has worked hard towards their targets and been proud to belong when they have celebrated their own and others’ successes. Well done year 6!
In English, we have been focusing on key SPAG concepts and reading Holes by Louis Sachar. We loved reading Kensuke’s Kingdom last term and hearing Michael’s story of his adventure. In Maths, we have covered a lot of objectives. We have learnt about angles in shapes, how to make nets of 3D shapes and used coordinates to describe position and direction. Before the Easter holidays, we were using statistics and finding the mean average of a set of numbers.
Year 6 enjoyed their cricket training session. The visitors showed us a game where we practiced throwing and bowling the ball. Another game included us batting balls as far as possible and the other team had to try and get the balls back.
Our Geography and History topics have been very interesting! We have looked at out ‘Extreme Earth’ and what causes hurricanes, tornadoes, volcanoes, tsunamis and earthquakes. We chose one and presented our research in a non-chronological report. For history, we have looked at the events of World War II and the rebuilding that needed to take place in Britain once the war was over. We have enjoyed looking at primary sources which were reliable. This gave us a real life picture of what it would have been like.
In Science, we have started our topic on Evolution. We also enjoyed our British Science Week. The posters for the competition were brilliant and it was very difficult to choose a winner! We made seismographs and tested them out and looked at different ways of recording our unique fingerprints.
Our time with our mentors from Reading School came to an end. We are very thankful for the support with maths that they have given us. We made them cards to say thank you and wish them luck in their own exams. We were very pleased when they also sent good luck cards along with some chocolates! Thank you Reading School Mentors!
Lastly, well done to Year 6 who have improved their attendance! We were the winners of the half termly competition for Spring 2 and we can’t wait to enjoy our prize of class pizza!
