Highlights from Reception
BackThis term we have been busy with our topic on ‘Growing and Changing.’ We read the story Jack and the Beanstalk and discussed language from the story. The children made predictions and joined in with the repetitive refrains from the story. On top of this, the children wanted to investigate what would happen if we planted a bean seed. Once planted we patiently watched them grow, even though it took a little longer than anticipated.
The children were invited to bring a baby photo so that we could talk about how we have changed since being a baby. The children talked about things that they can now do such as write a sentence, build a tower, and read a book. They all agreed that as babies they needed lots of support from their parents.
As part of our morning task the children have been writing sentences using their phonics knowledge. They have made all EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) staff immensely proud because they have been using finger spaces and re- reading their sentence to check it makes sense. Well done, Donaldson class! Many children have been awarded Super writers!
In maths we have been consolidating our learning on number bonds of 5 and 10. We have also been doubling the numbers. This week we have learnt to identify, create, and recognise numbers 11-20.
We made some fantastic models using junk and the children had to think carefully about what they were making and what would be the best material to use. Once they had created their models' children talked about how they can improve them. Look at some of our fantastic creations like this coffee machine made by Kacper.
The children loved welcoming their mums as part of our Mother’s Day afternoon tea party. They wanted to thank them for everything they did for them.
In PSHE, we have been thinking about Healthy Me! We have been thinking about all the different ways we can keep our body healthy, such as eating well, exercising, and sleeping. We took time to feel our heart beats before and after exercise and the children enjoyed feeling the difference! We also thought about Stranger Danger and the importance of keeping ourselves as safe as possible.
