It's been another incredibly busy time at Ranikhet and in Year 4. Over the past two months we have covered a range of subjects including, History, Geography, Science and Music.

In Science, we have been exploring circuits and focused on working scientifically to understand insulators and conductors. We first worked out how to make simple circuits before then predicting whether or not different items would be a conductor or an insulator.

In History, we continued our study of the Roman Empire. We found out about a significant person during that time called Boudicca, who united the Celts to revolt against the Roman legions! No mean feat! We then acted out the series of events leading up to her eventual suicide. Some budding actors here as you can see!

In Music, we have been learning about the music from The Beatles. We have been focusing on the song 'Blackbird'. We have learnt about the history of the band and the story behind the song. We learnt to listen and appraise before comparing it to other songs by The Beatles such as 'Yellow Submarine', 'Hey Jude' and 'Can’t Buy Me Love'. We then moved on to singing 'Blackbird' and learning a basic Glockenspiel part to accompany the song. You can see our performances in the videos here and below.

Our Literacy unit is to write a fantasy narrative. We have explored what makes a fantasy story and have begun thinking about our magical creatures and quests! There’s my half term reading sorted! I wonder if the children can retell the WAGOLL based on the text map?

Our Maths has seen us looking at worded problems using the bar model to support us before spiralling back around to equivalent fractions.

In other topic areas, we have looked at our five trusted adults as well as understanding the difference between joking, teasing and bullying. It promoted some fantastic class discussion and we created colourful hands to help us remember who our trusted adults are.

We also won the Attendance Award for the week beginning 19th April with a fantastic 97.8% and, because of our team effort, we were rewarded with an afternoon of fun! We spent most of our time playing games together outside before coming in for some arts and crafts. Our next target is to get 100% attendance for a week! Come on Year 4! We can do it!
