Year 5 have been working really, really hard. We covered a range of topics and subjects over last half term - the children were all ready for a break at the end of it!
In Science, Miss Gardener has captured their imagination with lots of learning around space and the planets. We’ve created our own rhymes to remember the order of them and have used torches to demonstrate the difference between night and day in practical experiments.
In Literacy, we have written some excellent biographies using all the features of that genre of writing. We have researched our class author, David Walliams, and have written lots of key information about him to present to others. We also celebrated ‘World Animal Day’ by dressing up as our favourite animal and writing about hippos - Africa’s deadliest animal!
In Maths, we’ve really extended our understanding of how to solve problems in the core calculations, particularly in addition and subtraction and we’ve asked some really good questions about how we reach a certain answer. We have also begun to look at multiplication and division, which we will continue with after half term. It’s really important that Year 5 continue to work on their times tables and the quick recall of these facts.
PSHE has seen us focus on our routines, our behaviour towards ourselves and others and how we can cope with changes to our routines. The children have been really self-reflective about this and are making progress to be more emotionally resilient. They have tried their best over the last few weeks and they deserve a rest over the half term holiday!
