21 October 2019

This term, Year 1 have been very busy. In English, we have been learning about the story of ‘Up and Down’ by Oliver Jeffers. We learned the story, created story maps and explored the vocabulary and comprehension in shared reading. We then created our own version of the story and read them to each other.

We have now gone on to learning how to make fact-files. This term in 'Topic', we have been learning about significant individuals that have changed history. We learned about the life of Neil Armstrong, Florence Nightingale and Rosen Class' favourite: Grace Darling. We concentrated on finishing our fact-files on Grace Darling so that the children’s work can be put up on display in the hall after half term.

In Maths this term, we have been learning 'Numbers Everywhere'. This has covered topics such as ordering numbers, partitioning, counting forwards and backwards from 20, number bonds to 10, length and height. Lately, we have been exploring time by learning the days of the week, the months of the year and even telling the time to the hour. We also made calendars and clocks.

This term our homework topic has been 'superheroes'. We have had some lovely homework come through. Please keep up the good work with homework over the half term. Here is Grace and Lilli showing off their lovely homework to the rest of the class.
